The Odyssey- book 1

• People blame the Gods for bad things that happen in their lives when it is merely their choice of life that takes them there.. They sent Hermes to warn the people that there would be a murder based on adultry and Orestes will avenge his father when he becomes a man, to sa get revenge. Athena believes that he got what he deserved and they hope that others learn from his wrongdoings.
• Calypso captures Odysseus and wants him to be her husband and asks that they let him go, but Posiedon doesn't want him to be let go to live his own life.. The gods agreetho that he be let loose and they know that Posiedon wil be mad,but it's time that he be free. Once he is set free he is to find his path home and when he finds his father his bravery will be commended.
• When Athena went to Odysseus, they prepared a feast and lots of people were there.
• Telemanchus and Mentes hit it off @ the feast and were waited on hand and foot... he says that the men there work for nothing and get everything handed to them and that is why they love it so much, but if Odysseus were to come back.. they would want to get out as fast as possible,but nothing can make him feel better than if his father were to return to him and he believes him to be gone forever.. he asks Mentes about his father and if he was a guest @ this party b4, but he also senses the irony of this.
• phemius- the joker
• mentes states that their fathers were friends and that he was alive on this earth somewhere and the Gods were keeping him from returning (he was unwilling)and says they have not seen eachothe rbut knows that his father will return to him soon from Troy he lives.
• Penelope was mourning the los of her husband and easig her mind for the evening..Athena put her to rest.
• Men would line up outside her dorr waiting to be the one she would marry for she had land and many riches, but he wouldn't stand for it.. and it ends in sleep
